The Netherlands has been classified as a corona high incidence area.
Short trips to the neighboring country now have consequences for travelers and commuters.
Especially for people in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).
Berlin - The federal government, in consultation with the Robert Koch Institute * (RKI), classified the Netherlands * as a corona high incidence area on Sunday.
The RKI announced this on its website in the afternoon.
The rating takes effect at midnight on Tuesday night.
From this point on, stricter rules apply to entry from the neighboring country.
Netherlands: Travelers and commuters should know that now
All people who have been in a high incidence area or a virus variant area in the ten days before entering Germany must present a notification of a negative corona test * upon arrival, which must not be older than 48 hours.
Air travelers must present this proof before departure.
Easier rules only apply to commuters, employees in freight transport and transit travelers.

High number of corona cases in the Netherlands
According to EU data from Thursday, the Netherlands had an incidence value of 554 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days, more than twice as much as in Germany *.
NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) called on Sunday to “reduce border traffic to the Netherlands to what is necessary” in general.
The additional protective measures are "an important component in fighting pandemics".
NRW announces controls
The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia also announced that the police would monitor compliance with the test obligations from Tuesday through random checks - similar to what is already being done at the German-French border.
For commuters who have to cross the border regularly because of their job, their studies or their training, a negative test is recognized for 72 hours, so that those affected usually have to be tested up to two times per working week.
Of the immediate neighboring countries of Germany, in addition to the Netherlands, France, Poland and the Czech Republic are currently identified as high incidence areas in which there are a particularly high number of infections with the coronavirus.
The French district of Moselle is also considered a virus variant area in which mutants of the coronavirus are particularly widespread.
