Representatives of the 13 member factions in the 24th Knesset began today (Monday) to visit the President's House in Jerusalem, for a round of recommendations on the candidate for the formation of the government.

The first to enter the president Reuven Rivlin are Likud representatives, Public Security Minister Amir Ohana, Minister of Regional Cooperation Ofir Akunis and Minister Tzachi Hanegbi settlement.

This is the fifth time that President Reuven Rivlin host the post-election recommendations ceremony for the fourth time in two years, and the last time fling The mandate is for a candidate to form the government before the end of his term in July, and this

time too, all consultations with the factions will be transparent to the public and will be broadcast live, but they will compete for media attention with what is happening in Jerusalem District Court.

The order of the recommenders is determined by the size of the faction, so that the Likud received the premiere, after which, every three quarters of an hour, the other factions will enter for consultation by size: Yesh Atid, Shas, Blue and White, Right, Labor and Torah Judaism Noon.

After a short break of an hour and a half, the second part of the round of recommendations will begin with representatives of Yisrael Beiteinu, religious Zionism, the joint list, Tikva Hadash, Meretz, and finally RAAM - the smallest faction in the 24th Knesset, which will sign the day of consultations.

Unlike the previous three election campaigns, the number of recommenders is expected to be divided this time between three candidates: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has 52 recommenders, from the Likud, the ultra-Orthodox factions and religious Zionism;

Chairman Yesh Atid Yair Lapid has 37 recommenders - Mish Atid, Yisrael Beiteinu, the Labor Party and Meretz, and right-wing chairman Naftali Bennett are expected to have 13-7 recommenders, from the right and perhaps Gideon Saar's new hope.

In blue and white they have not yet decided whether to recommend Bennett or Lapid, and so have the Arab factions.

The joint list and RAAM have not yet decided whether to support any of the candidates, and only Bled chairman Sami Abu Shehadeh has announced in advance that he will not recommend any of the parties.

The full map of recommenders is expected to become clear during the morning hours, when the bloc opposing Netanyahu is still making efforts to unite around one candidate and there is pressure on Lapid and Bennett to reach agreements even before the round of recommendations.

If not - Netanyahu is expected to have the largest number of recommenders over the other two candidates.

Made clear that he would give the mandate to the one who has the highest chance of forming a government.

Schedule round of recommendations with the President

  • 09:30 - Likud

  • 10:15 - There is a future

  • 11:00 - Shas

  • 11:45 - Blue and white

  • 12:30 - Right

  • 13:15 - The work

  • 14:00 - Torah Judaism

  • 17:30 - The joint list

However, President Rivlin made it clear last week that he would give the mandate to those who have the highest chance of forming a government, and not necessarily to those who have the highest total of recommenders, and the law leaves him very broad discretion over who to impose the mandate on.

Rivlin is expected to announce his decision by Wednesday, but it may be sooner.

Is expected to get the most recommenders.

The MK who receives the mandate will have 28 days to form a government, with an option to extend it for another 14 days. If the first candidate fails, the president will hold another round of consultations at the end of which he can impose the government on another candidate for another 28 days - or return The mandate for the Knesset to inform the Speaker of the Knesset that he does not see the possibility of forming a government.

If the second candidate fails to form a government within the 28 days allotted to him, the mandate will return to the Knesset in any case for a period of three weeks during which 61 MKs can apply for the post of each MK of their choice.

This candidate, according to the law, will have 14 days to form a government, and if not - the Knesset will be dispersed for a fifth election.
