Uncertainty in Israel regarding the US position, with the opening of talks today in Vienna between Iran and the powers that signed the original nuclear agreement in 2015.

The United States officially announced yesterday that it was "ready to take the necessary steps to return to the nuclear deal." in agreement".

Officially, the talks with the other Iranian partners in the original nuclear deal - France, Britain, the European Union, China and Russia - will lead.

From Washington will also arrive the administration's special envoy for the Iran issue, Robert Mali, who will lead the American delegation.

The administration says there are currently no direct talks with Iran, but they are "open to such a possibility." The administration manages relations with Israel on this issue in three channels. Ongoing dialogue with the White House National Security Council, chaired by Jake Sullivan.

The second - US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, spoke on Friday with Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi and discussed the issue with him.

In addition, Israel's ambassador to Washington and the United Nations, Gilad Ardan, is holding his own channel of talks in the US capital. The Israeli side has reached conflicting conclusions about the administration's goal.

On the other hand, other Israeli sources estimate that a US return to the original agreement is only a matter of time and finding a formula that will allow the administration to respectfully withdraw from President Biden's statements.

According to these sources, the administration is preoccupied with several serious and urgent internal and international problems, chief among them the corona and its economic consequences.

In the international arena, the Biden administration is working to curb China and it is precisely against this background that it is not interested in wasting resources on the Iran problem, which it sees as a lower priority.

A senior official told Israel Today yesterday in this context that the current situation, in which Tehran violates the agreement but imposes severe sanctions on it, is better than returning to the understandings of the original nuclear agreement.

A U.S. State Department spokesman said yesterday that his country did not intend to unilaterally ease Iran on the nuclear issue before an understanding was reached on its way back to the agreement.

"We will not consider one-sided gestures or concessions to bring Iran to a better position in the negotiations," he clarified.
