The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed its request to the Secretary-General of the United Nations to add the Israeli occupation to the United Nations list of those who violate the rights of children (the list of shame) and to hold it accountable for its continuing violations of international law and the rights of the Palestinian child.
Wafa news agency quoted the Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement today on the occasion of the Palestinian Child’s Day that Palestinian children have the right to live in safety and peace just like the children of the world, in addition to their right to enjoy the necessary legal protection from the systematic violations of the Israeli colonial occupation of their rights, which can only be achieved by ending the Israeli occupation. Long-standing war criminals are held accountable for their crimes against the Palestinian people.
The Foreign Ministry indicated that Palestinian children are among the most affected groups of the Palestinian people and affected by the policies and crimes of the Israeli occupation and its racist practices, which include denying access to public services such as education, work and health, in addition to forcible transfer, persecution and daily settler terror.
The Foreign Ministry pointed out that the occupation forces and settlers have killed more than 781 Palestinian children since 2011, in addition to large-scale arrests of children without regard for their legal rights and best interests stipulated in international conventions, foremost of which is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, pointing out that 146 children suffer from conditions. Catastrophic psychological and physical torture in the detention camps of the occupation, in miserable attempts to distort the generation of children and implement the occupation plans to destroy the future, security and safety of the Palestinian people.
The Foreign Ministry affirmed that it will continue to work on all international levels to provide international protection for the Palestinian people, specifically children, leading to an end to the Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, and the return of refugees to their homes from which they were displaced with their children.
