Alberto "Wey" Zapata

, who had lost an arm last November in a traffic accident on Route 40, died this Sunday in a motocross competition that was held in the Cordovan town of San Agustín.

The 23-year-old rider was running with one arm and was an entertainer of the competition, the second date of Enduro, when he fell to the ground after a jump and was run over by two other competitors.

Zapata was transferred to a nearby medical center, but hours later he died as a result of the injuries suffered.

The Wey, as he was known in the motocross scene, had returned to racing in February after making a miraculous recovery after the amputation of his left arm.

A timely tourniquet had saved his life and now, after rehab, he was determined to continue his passion.

On December 31, Zapata published on that social network: "Goodbye to this 2020, a hard year really but of great learning. Thank God ending it with Vida and all the desire that 2021 be blessed with joys, successes, health and good energy. I thank all the people who support me tirelessly. I have no words of thanks. Health and good start to the year! ".

The incredible thing was that, just a month and a couple of days later, the pilot returned to the tracks.

Now the jump stopped on his motorcycle and in the photo it was clearly seen that he was achieving it with his new physical condition.

The photo was posted on February 1.

“The chances of me riding a motorcycle again for doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists were practically zero.

But I focused on recovery to improve my balance day by day and I put a lot of emphasis on that.

The kinesiologists told me not to focus so much on that, but I thought about how I was going to handle the motorcycle, ”he told Carburando.

On his return he came out eleventh, but every time he walked around the audience cheered him on.

That was enough.

But, after that 11th place, on March 4 he traveled to Chubut and got on the podium.

“First podium after my amputation.

The results of daily work, wishes, dreams and a truly unforgettable moment ”, he told again on Instagram.

Last week he was third at El Algarrobal, in Mendoza.

But the film ended badly this Sunday in San Agustín with the accident that cut short his life.

The governor of San Juan, Sergio Uñac, regretted the news on his Twitter account, in which he wrote: "I am absolutely moved by the sad news of the death of San Juan motorcyclist Wey Zapata. My condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time. ".

"Rest in peace, warrior! In San Juan we will remember you as a great athlete and a great fighter", completed the San Juan president.
