A shooting at a Maryland naval base leaves at least two wounded. The attacker was killed

The incident occurred this Tuesday morning at Fort Detrick, in Frederick. A spokesman confirmed that the man who opened fire was a 38-year-old member of the Navy Hospital Corps.


A shooting Tuesday morning at Fort Detrick, Maryland, left at least

two people seriously injured

and the attacker killed.

Army troops were involved in the event.  

A Navy spokesperson confirmed what happened to our sister network, NBC News, and reported that the suspect in carrying out the attack is a

38-year-old

member of the Navy Hospital Corps

.

So far, details of the motivation and what exactly happened are unknown.

Nor is the state of the victims known, nor their identities.

Frederick Police Chief Jason Lando said officers found two men with gunshot wounds at the scene.

Both were transferred to Baltimore Shock Trauma, where they are currently in "critical condition."

Earlier, Frederick police reported on Twitter that officers were on the scene responding to a call for an 8:20 a.m. shooting in the 8400 block of Progress Drive.

"At the moment there are two victims and a suspect has been killed," authorities said.

The Navy spokesman added that they will continue to provide information as the

investigations progress

Frederick is located about 52 miles (about 80 kilometers) northwest of Washington, DC.
