The prefect of Bas-Rhin Josiane Chevalier decided on Tuesday to seize the administrative court of the
“contentious deliberation”
of the Strasbourg city council, which voted in principle for a subsidy of more than 2.5 million euros for the construction of 'a mosque, the prefecture announced in a statement.

The vote of the City Council had aroused a strong reaction from the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, who accused the environmentalist mayor of Strasbourg Jeanne Barseghian of financing a
"foreign interference",
in this case that of Turkey, on the French soil.
The Millî Görüs association, the bearer of a controversial mosque project in Strasbourg, strongly rejected Tuesday the
“unfounded”
accusations
of allegiance to Ankara or of
“separatism”
, during a press conference.
Claiming to be
“particularly affected”
by the
“many accusations”
leveled against the construction project of the “Eyyub Sultan” mosque, the president of the place of worship under construction and of the Islamic Confederation Millî Görüs Est (CIMG) Est, Eyüp Sahin, considered that this was
"not tolerable in a large country like France".
