In an interview on Europe1, in which he also returned to the controversy of the supposed ministerial dinners in restaurants in times of pandemic, the minister underlined the reaction mechanism of traffickers to the fight of the police against the sale of narcotics.

According to him, the urban riots of recent months, which have affected cities such as Évreux, Creil, Blois or Lyon, are due to the fight against drug trafficking, which would push certain neighborhoods to catch fire: "

when you disturb points deal, which brings in between 40,000 and 50,000 euros in cash per day, and that you make record seizures, and that you put in police vans of delinquents, there is a reaction because it is easy money,

”the minister said in particular.

"

I came to say yesterday with the Prime Minister in Creil that we encourage this work [...] and that it is always the Republic which wins in the end,

”he continued.

Prime Minister Jean Castex and Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin went to Creil and Méru in the Oise on Monday evening to provide “

support

” to the police after clashes last week.

"

We wanted to come to give you our unwavering support

," said the head of government during this surprise visit to the Creil police station, assuring that "

there is no question of the Republic retreating

".

Some 60 CRS were sent Thursday as reinforcements, after two nights of clashes in the Hauts-de-Creil district during which two police officers were slightly injured.
