Gap in the defense of the River Rats: With Hansi Tauber, a veteran has ended his successful career after almost 400 point games

  • Hans Tauber jun.

made his debut in 2001 in the men's area of his home club.

  • The now 35-year-old defender played almost 400 competitive games for Geretsried

  • Geretsrieder also got involved with his club off the field and helped design the new River Rats logo, among other things.

Geretsried - Even though Hans Tauber has mostly played as a defender for the Geretsried ice hockey team in recent years, it was obvious that he was a trained striker.

Elegant on the runners with tight puck guidance and the trained eye for a successful conclusion, the now 35-year-old often provided the River Rats with decisive goals with a single action.

And because Tauber has always been a bank, especially on the defensive, it is all the more bitter for the ESC that he has now announced the end of his career.

“Unfortunately, it was with a heavy heart that Hansi had to cancel me for the coming season.

However, his reasons are 100 percent understandable and must be respected, ”explains Peter Holdschik in a press release.

He himself, according to the 2nd chairman, associates Tauber with a long, special and personal time as a functionary, trainer and teammate.

"Of course, Hansi leaves a big gap, and not just on the ice," emphasizes Holdschik.

With the departure of the 35-year-old, the ESC loses a true ice hockey veteran.

At the age of three, Tauber took his first steps in the TuS ice hockey school.

As a child and adolescent, he went through all the youth teams and also played one season for EC Bad Tölz in the junior league.

In 2001/02 Tauber, whose father Hans was also a well-deserved Geretsrieder player and coach, made his debut in the men's division - at that time in the major league.

He stayed with his hometown club even after relegation to the Bayern League, where he was on the ice with Peter Holdschik, among others.

When the Geretsrieder had to start at the bottom of the district league after the re-establishment of the ESC, Tauber switched to the Bayern league club EV Fürstenfeldbruck.

In 2008 he returned to the River Rats and became a permanent fixture on the team.

The defender, who played almost 400 competitive games for Geretsried, was also significantly involved in the Bayern League promotion in 2015.

The personable athlete also got involved outside of the game, acted as a youth coach and played a key role in the creation of the new River Rats logo.

"With his departure, Hansi leaves a big hole in the defense of our traditionally offensive squad, which we now have to fill," said club spokesman Tom Kinzl.

That is why one will be happy to see Tauber in the stadium as often as possible - "even if in civilian clothes and not in ice hockey equipment".
