The Prime Minister's Office will hold a crucial hearing this morning (Tuesday) on the question of whether and how to respond to the request of the Chief Prosecutor of the Criminal Court in The Hague, Pato Bensuda.
About a month ago, the plaintiff, who is on the verge of retirement, sent an official letter to Israel in which she asked whether the state intends to investigate the war crimes it attributes to Israelis.
Israel is not the first country the tribunal is dressing for in circumstances that at least the leaders of that country believe it is doing so unjustly.
It is clear that the United States, Britain and Russia did not like the intervention of the tribunal in their case. But a country like Kenya, for example, fought for years and won the tribunal. So while the Kenyan case is not the same as the Israeli, And from the subtle way she did it, there is something to learn.
Instead of continuing to degenerate naively into the path of death sentences that Basuda has been marching us on for several years, the time has come to attack.
But not just a verbal attack that digs into our justice and is pleasing to the Israeli ear, but a sophisticated attack, in an international language, that will hit the court with its most sensitive place - legitimacy.
How do you do that?
There is no point in giving the court a laconic answer, in the form of 'we do not recognize your authority'.
This patent has already been tried and did not particularly impress Bensuda and most of the judges who discussed the Israeli case.
Even a long and reasoned letter of matter will not affect.
Bensuda's positions are known in advance.
So instead of defending, we must attack and the way to do that is to recruit prominent figures from Israel and the world who support Israel, and that no one will doubt their commitment to human rights and the law of justice.
For example, the model of the human struggle for freedom, Natan Sharansky, Erwin Kotler, among others, the lawyer of Nelson Mandela, the bride of the Nobel Peace Prize and supporter of Israel Alan Johnson Sirleaf, the international leaders' forum that sided with Israel,
It is these and similar personalities who must lead the campaign into which Israel is inevitably dragged.
They need to respond on our behalf.
They are the ones with whom the international media and the international community need to correspond.
We, what to do, are not members of this court and do not recognize it at all.
Contrary to the moods that have characterized the Israeli system for many years, there is no point in pinning false hopes on the new prosecutor of the tribunal, Karim Khan, and in general one should not make optimistic assumptions about The Hague.
The procedure against Israel has begun and should start from a strict starting point that the worst will happen, since this is how things are done in international bodies regarding Israel.
The view that this is how things have developed towards us in the court to this day.
The institution, contrary to what is sometimes offered on social media, cannot be bombed from the air.
But it is possible and worthwhile to drop the carpet of legitimacy under his feet.
Deceit is essential in warfare.
