According to the Islamic Republic, the first round of the new nuclear talks with Iran was constructive.
Negotiations should continue on Friday, chief negotiator Abbas Arakchi said on state television on Tuesday.
Talks about a revival of the agreement from 2015 had previously been resumed in Vienna.
The United States is not at the table when representatives of the remaining partners of the Vienna nuclear agreement - Germany, France, Great Britain, Russia, China and Iran - have started talks.
According to current plans, US representatives in Vienna should be informed about the course of the talks.
"We expect they will have difficult sections," White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said at the White House.
"We expect this to be a long process." The US government continues to believe that the diplomatic path is the right way forward, added Psaki.
The new US President Joe Biden has promised a return to his country after his predecessor Donald Trump unilaterally terminated the contract in 2018.
Direct negotiations between the USA and Iran are not planned for the time being.
The US has warned against too high expectations for the meeting.
Germany is also involved in the nuclear agreement.
