Oberau - On April 2nd, the Oberau mountain rescue team had to move out on a large-scale operation lasting several hours.

The reason: two mountain hikers - a couple from the Augsburg area (24 and 34 years old) - got out of their way on Fricken in the Fahrmannslaine area and dialed the emergency number around 7 p.m.

The deployment proved extremely difficult due to the impassable terrain and the increased risk of avalanches.

A police helicopter that was suitable for night flights had to be requested during the operation.

This arrived in Oberau around midnight.

The two people were recovered unharmed with the winch and brought into the valley.

A total of twelve mountain rescue workers were involved in the action until 1.30 a.m.

According to mountain rescue information, the hikers had set themselves the Krottenkopf as their destination.

Due to the large amount of snow in the high areas, however, they made slow progress and lost their way.

Apparently they followed wild tracks.

In the end, no further progress was possible in the steep section.
