Police reform: widespread experimentation from September

The Minister of the Interior has decided to generalize "

indicated that the Minister of the Interior had indicated in mid-March his desire to generalize this new organization from September.

This is an acceleration of the timetable for the implementation of this reform which, when it was announced, was conditional on the success of the experiment.

In mid-November, when the white paper on internal security was published, Gérald Darmanin announced the experimentation, as from January 1, of a new organization of the police in three departments: Pas-de-Calais, La Savoie and the Pyrénées-Orientales.

This new organization consists in the creation in each department of a single directorate having under its authority the public security, the judicial police and the border police.

It is planned that this new director will be placed under the authority of a director of the larger defense zone.

There are currently 7 defense and security zones in mainland France.

If the police unions had welcomed this territorial reorganization in mid-November, police officials had shown little enthusiasm for their part.
