Stability or alternation: what political balance in the departments?

DECRYPTION - Since the Liberation, 25 departments have always been on the right, 15 always on the left. Allier, Corrèze or Isère hold the records for work-study programs.


Pink wave in 2004 and 2010, blue wave in 2015, the departmental elections - formerly called cantonal - are often a sanction for the national power in place.

This reading will not be possible this year, La République en Marche, by Emmanuel Macron, having, by definition, no outgoing departmental executive.

The stake will rather be a rebalancing between the right and the left

,

the latter having lost 29 departments in 2015 - a record - (27 for the benefit of the right, 1 of the Modem and 1 of the Corsican regionalists).

But under the alternation, there are permanence, revealing a France of the right and a France of the left immutable, whatever the alternations.

thus studied the political evolutions in each metropolitan department since the Liberation (taking into account certain reclassifications following the bipolarization which appeared under the Fifth Republic).

It thus appears that France is, at the local level, more stable than it is often said.
