Between the love of the land and the desire to work on it, the farmer, Qahtan Shalgain, from the village of Majadel in the northwestern countryside of Suwayda, recorded the title of excellence in the field of agriculture and production, embodying the saying (the land gives to those who give it) and stressing that working in the agricultural sector is one of the most important elements of steadfastness in light of the unjust blockade and the terrorist war on Syria.
Shalgain, 46 years old, tells in his interview with a SANA reporter how he started working in the field of irrigated agriculture about twenty years ago with limited capabilities in his father's land that extends over an area of 35 dunums, taking advantage of the presence of a well dug in it, indicating that his work expanded as he gradually gained experience and invested many of the lands in it. Wells under contracts with their owners by cultivating various crops, vegetables and forage crops such as gilbana and crops protected by tunnels such as tomatoes, watermelons, eggplant and cucumbers.
Shalgain's experience with agriculture, as mentioned, has achieved him self-sufficiency and a good additional income in addition to providing job opportunities that reach about 30 opportunities throughout one year for working hands working under his supervision as he is committed to a job and works on the land after the end of his work and on holidays.
Shalghin, who currently holds the presidency of the Umm Al-Zaitoun town council, transferred his experience of agriculture to an agricultural investment project for the benefit of the council. The current season has started on an area of 50 dunums of irrigated wheat and depends on irrigation from surface wells. Work will be made to circulate this experience with neighboring villages to secure production for citizens in the same way in cooperation with agricultural producers. And the civil society, pointing out the importance of employing alternative energy in agriculture under long-term loans to farmers due to the cost of energy systems, as well as strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors, supporting the agricultural sector by all means, and working on reclamation of unexploited lands and increasing the number of wells to increase the areas that can be irrigated and focus agriculture in the future on strategic crops such as wheat.
