The Slovak Communist Party and the National Union of Syrian Students in Slovakia called on the European Union to stop practicing economic terrorism against the Syrian people by imposing unjust economic coercive measures.
The party and the National Union of Syrian Students in Slovakia said in a letter to the European Union Commission in Brussels through the Union’s representation in the Slovakian capital Bratislava that the continuation of the absurd and erroneous European Union policies towards Syria once again demonstrated the blind hatred against Syria and the European politicians ’decision to prolong the suffering of the Syrian people.
The message indicated that Western countries “continue to practice the most inferior types of political blackmail by linking the contribution to the reconstruction of Syria and achieving progress in the political solution. What is meant here is Syria’s acquiescence to foreign dictations and agendas as a condition for contributing to its reconstruction regardless of the will and aspirations of the Syrian people.”
The message stressed that continuing to impose coercive economic measures on Syria and the policy of collective punishment would lead to an exacerbation of the humanitarian situation and deprive the Syrian people of the basic necessities of life and greatly affect the health sector in Syria at a time when the Corona epidemic is spreading.
The letter called on the European Union to adopt a realistic approach in dealing with the Syrian government and engage in dialogue and cooperation with it in a way that contributes to moving forward in a political solution to the crisis in Syria in a way that achieves the aspirations and hopes of the Syrian people in line with United Nations resolutions that affirmed that this solution must be led by Syria Without any outside interference.
