35,000 people follow her on Twitter.

On April 1st, she burst her collar.

We spoke to the half-blood teacher for a year of Corona in Bavaria's schools.

We were particularly surprised by the positive.

Munich - Melanie H. (40, last name changed) teaches at a middle school in the greater Munich area.

In addition, she tweets as a "half-blood teacher" for around 35,000 followers.

On April 1, after a year of Corona in Bavaria's schools, she burst her collar.

She tweeted plain text.

Bavaria: Conclusion of a teacher after a year of Corona - "Markus, etz langts"

“So, Markus, go here.

I want to tell you something.

Last year in March our schools shut down.

I found out about it through the press.

Without laptops, without iPads, many pupils didn't even have an email address.

Mebis crashed, teams were banned.

OK."

This is how a series of tweets starts.

It ends with: “You know, Markus, that's it.

Shit or go down from the pot. ”We wanted to know from Melanie H. how she experienced a year of Corona * at Bavaria's schools and reached the“ half-blood teacher ”at her desk at home on Tuesday after Easter.

She is correcting the big test (religion) of her 9th grade.

A senior class.

You know Markus, that's it.

Fuck or get down from the pot.

Ms. H., the cabaret artist Maxi Schafroth recently described your colleagues in the Ministry of Culture as follows: “These are intellectual dials.

By the time they have set up a tablet, we have the fourth wave - with Sars-CoV-3. ”Can you sign that?

Half-blood teacher:

(Long sighs).

I think a lot has happened in the last year.

Not as much as necessary, but a lot.

Thanks to my own initiative, there were big steps.

Not through the Ministry of Culture.

But through the colleagues, through the communities, through the schools and the students.

We shared a lot of private knowledge.

Corona in Bavaria: teacher reports on everyday school life - "Then came the lockdown"

Did you learn from each other?

Half-blood teacher:

And very, very much.

I was given English in a 10th grade at the time.

Then came the lockdown.

Everything was mixed up at first.

Nobody really knew what to do.

Everyone immediately tried to find solutions.

The teachers were quick to tread new paths and many obstacles were put in our way along these paths.

Especially when it comes to data protection.

What is allowed, what is not allowed?

In the beginning we worked a lot with emails and the phone.

What I had talked to the students on the phone did not go on cow skin.

Michael Piazolo always referred to Mebis in the press conferences. *

Half-blood teacher:

That didn't help us.

We didn't use Mebis before Corona.

It's just not practical either.

The structure is extremely confusing.

A colleague then snuck in and trained us internally.

When everyone logged in on Monday, nothing worked anymore.

We then quickly switched to zoom.

The students were open to it and were often way ahead of us teachers.

But zoom was actually forbidden.

Half-blood teacher:

That was the problem.

Most of the tools that were available had not been clarified in terms of data protection law.

We fought there.

Tools that were very practical, very simple, were suddenly no longer allowed.

We have been working with teams since July.

That’s just perfect.

I have my own class team, including a council where we meet loosely twice a week.

Teams in the ministry are also controversial in terms of data protection law.

Half-blood teacher:

Yes, because the servers are in the USA.

But not forbidden?

Half-blood teacher:

Not yet.

Corona lockdown in Bavaria: teacher reports - "We didn't know anything yet"

Take a look back for us.

About a year ago, on March 13th, the first lockdown and school closings were announced.

Half-blood teacher:

The parents knew that the school would be closed.

We didn't know anything yet.

I stood in front of my class doing lessons while the press conference was going on.

A year later I still hear from the press how my school is going.

I agree.

A year later, on April 1st, you broke your collar.

You wrote to Markus Söder directly in a tweet series and became very clear in the process.

What was the trigger?

Half-blood teacher:

My vaccination appointment was canceled because of the new Stiko recommendation for Astrazeneca.

Just getting the appointment was difficult.

There was an extra portal for teachers to register.

We got a code.

The code didn't work for a long time.

And then came the memory of my duty to serve.

The BLLV has written a fire letter.

He was commented by you with "bad timing".

You even had the courage to remind us of our fucking duty.

The duty of service that has cost some of us our lives.

Clear.

- Half-blood teacher (@MelsGedanken) April 1, 2021

The BLLV (Bavarian Teachers' Association) has written a fire letter *.

If the teachers didn't get a vaccination offer before the end of the vacation, nobody would come to class.

Piazolo and Söder sharply criticized the ultimatum and recalled, among other things, the duty of teachers.

After Söder and Piazolo criticism - Bavarian teacher: "That was a slap in the face"

Half-blood teacher:

And that was a slap in the face.

That confirms the picture that many of us already draw.

There is this basic attitude: "The teachers had a year off ..."

... and now they want to extend the Easter holidays ...

Half-blood teacher:

... and instead we've been fighting for a year.

Of course there are also lazy teachers.

Just as there are sure to be lazy journalists or lazy nurses.

But that's not the rule.

A year of challenges lies behind us.

An exciting year.

A year we are proud of.

And then they remind us of our duty to serve.

That was a slap in the face.

You got around 500 retweets and several thousand likes on your Söder tweet.

So, Markus, go here.

I want to tell you something.

Last year in March our schools shut down.

I found out about it through the press.

Without laptops, without iPads, many pupils didn't even have an email address.

Mebis crashed, teams were banned.

OK.

Half-blood teacher:

And many answers.

The response made me realize that I was saying what a lot of people think.

I spoke for Bavaria.

But the feedback came from all over Germany.

Everyone is struggling with the same problems and a lot of anger nationwide.

Anger out of helplessness.

What could have been done better?

Half-blood teacher:

give schools more personal responsibility.

The big watering can doesn't work.

I would have liked to have been trusted more.

What do we need, what can we and our students achieve, we know best ourselves.

And a little more planning security.

It's clear that you can't predict the numbers.

But, for example, to briefly reopen this one week at Easter - that was so for the cat.

And more conversations with those affected.

One assumes that most of the students have a desk, laptop and internet at home.

Half-blood teacher:

I work at a special school and a middle school.

Our clientele often comes from a shift where this is not the case.

Our students initially worked on their cell phones, but then quickly failed due to the volume of data.

There is usually only one tablet for the whole family.

And the students live very limited.

I would have liked to see politics outside of high schools.

So nothing has gotten better after a year of pandemic?

Half-blood teacher:

Yes.

We now have tablets in our school.

The students can borrow them and also get a workplace here, where they can sit alone in a room.

Corona balance after one year: the teacher also reports positive things

Let's close optimistically.

What positive things did you take with you from a year of Corona?

Half-blood teacher:

Definitely closer to the students.

There were and are many one-on-one meetings that were often more private.

And the blackboard is not the only medium.

I've learned that now.

I will continue to use a lot after Corona because it is great.

And the students impressed me with the openness with which they approached their situation.

Do many still have to repeat because of Corona?

Half-blood teacher:

(Sighs again)

This is also such a rumor that it lasts.

After all, we teachers also had a year off, so everyone has to repeat now.

I cant hear that anymore.

I am just as advanced with my material as I should be.

Of course, individual students were left behind, but they would have been caught in the classroom as well.

I often notice a positive effect: some students who had never dared to do so in class really blossomed at home because they no longer had this “I have to be cool” factor.

That was good.

Thank you for the interview.
