Federal Minister of Justice Christine Lambrecht (SPD) reiterates the initiative by Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) to give people who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus more freedom.
"If it is now scientifically proven that vaccinated persons do not pose a higher risk to others than those who tested negative, an important reason for restricting their basic rights is no longer applicable," Lambrecht told the "Bild" newspaper.
"We do not live in an authoritarian state"
The basic rights are guaranteed by the Basic Law, said Lambrecht.
They may only be restricted in exceptional cases, with good justification and in compliance with proportionality.
"We do not live in an authoritative state that can restrict or return fundamental rights at will."
It is therefore a logical step to equate vaccinated people with those who tested negative in the future.
Tests and vaccinations would therefore play an important role in the coming opening steps.
Health Minister Spahn had previously spoken out in favor of giving vaccinated people more freedom after the third wave of infections.
In the "Bild am Sonntag" he justified this with a new analysis by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), according to which people who had been completely vaccinated against the coronavirus were less infectious than those infected without symptoms with a negative rapid corona test.
Spahn had received a lot of approval for his advance.
