Easter and Ching Ming Festival lasted for 5 consecutive days, and there was a flood of people in all the suburbs of Hong Kong.

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said today (7th) that in order to meet the needs of outings during the Easter holiday, in the past 5 days, that is, from April 2 to April 6, the outlying islands and rural areas have strengthened their garbage collection and cleaning services. A total of more than 190 metric tons of garbage were collected.

Among them, Cheung Chau accounted for 170 metric tons, while Tap Mun and Donglong Island accounted for 6 metric tons and 5 metric tons respectively.

Po Toi Island, Bai La and other places also collected 15 metric tons of garbage

The FEHD announced today that in the past 5 days, about 170 tonnes, 6 tonnes and 5 tonnes of garbage were collected in Cheung Chau, Tap Mun and Tung Lung Island respectively.

In addition, about 15 metric tons of garbage were collected in Po Toi Island, Sham Chung, Lai Chi Village, Yantian Tze, Kiu Tsui Chau and Bai La.

The FEHD continued to point out that it noticed that many people would visit outlying islands and rural areas during the long holidays. Therefore, according to the actual situation in each district, it increased the frequency of cleaning up the area and emptying the waste bins, and strengthened the cleansing service to maintain the area tidy.

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department urges citizens to maintain environmental hygiene when travelling to outlying islands and rural areas, do not litter everywhere, and properly dispose of used masks and garbage.
