Corona has more or less paralyzed some companies.

Hairdressing salons also had to close for months.

A master hairdresser therefore dared to take a big step: she now works as a mail carrier.

Geretsried - registered mail instead of curlers, parcels instead of tinting: 57-year-old Doris Altewulf has given up her job as a master hairdresser.

Now she is working as a mail carrier for Deutsche Post in Geretsried.

Part of the reason for this was the corona pandemic and the associated lockdown.

Geretsried: As early as 2007, the hairdresser had to give up her dream of having her own salon

Altewulf comes from North Rhine-Westphalia.

“At 16 I started my hairdressing apprenticeship, at 20 I started to be a master craftsman,” she says.

This was followed by training as a beautician, followed by nutritional advice two years ago.

In her old home, Altewulf opened a hairdressing salon, which she gave up in 2007 for personal reasons.

What now?

Quit your job entirely?

She applied for a 12.5-hour part-time job at the Dortmund letter center, but stayed true to her actual job as a mobile hairdresser.

Through her ex-husband, Altewulf discovered her passion for the mountains at an early age.

“We were always in Canada together,” she reports.

After the separation, Altewulf went on vacation in Mittenwald - and fell in love with the area and the alpine world.

“Like Little Canada - only without wild animals,” says the 57-year-old.

So in 2015 she packed her bags and moved to Bavaria.

After a couple of stops, she stood there again with a comb and scissors to beautify her customers.

But then the lockdown came and there were no more customers.

Corona lockdown in Geretsried: boss registers short-time work - hairdresser is thinking about alternative occupations

The boss announced short-time work, and Altewulf began to think about career alternatives.

"Two days before Christmas last year I came to the Geretsried branch on Blumenstrasse," she reports in an interview with our newspaper.

And there was a lot to do, especially before and around Christmas.

"When I got off my bike after work, I felt every muscle, especially at first." The 57-year-old has to laugh.

"But it is better to move than just stand around."

Corona taught me one thing.

You can no longer just plan for the future like that "

Doris Altewulf

The 57-year-old cannot say whether she wants to work as a hairdresser again.

“Corona taught me one thing.

You can no longer just plan for the future, "she says and gets back on the bike.
