New York-Sana

Dmitry Poliansky, Russia's deputy delegate to the UN Security Council, stressed that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons or any other international organization should not be turned into a tool to punish countries that violate Western policies by making unfounded allegations about their use of chemical weapons.

Poliansky said during a session of the Security Council that “any country can end up in the situation that Syria has reached in the event that the Westerners decide to use the chemical weapons file to pressure it,” indicating that “stopping the use of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons as a tool of pressure represents a rejection of the policy of double standards and protection of the regime. A just world in which there is no place for dictating power, within which all states are equal in respect of international law.

Poliansky pointed out that “the bulk of the evidence of direct forgery, manipulation and internal violations in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and related to the chemical file in Syria reached a critical degree, which are blatant violations during the investigations into the allegations of the use of chemical weapons in Khan Sheikhoun April 2017 and the Duma of April 2018, where testimonies confirm Former employees of the organization falsified the investigation mission's findings under the pressure of Western countries and the practice of suppressing and intimidating the inspectors who rejected the forgery.

Poliansky noted that it is possible that the investigation and identification team of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) will announce the start of another investigation into the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria. “This is clearly a sign that the new team will unleash another surprise by reporting another false investigation. "With anti-Syrian results, our Western colleagues will also be quick to interpret this unscrupulous product as alleged evidence of Damascus's use of chemical weapons."

This "will really prove only one thing that your methods of discrediting Syria without presenting any documented or reliable evidence have remained largely the same, and that you will hardly score any additional points in this regard," Poliansky said.

Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Bassam Sabbagh, confirmed in his speech to the Security Council yesterday that the French-Western draft resolution presented to the OPCW conference represents another evidence of the aggressive intentions of some countries against Syria, again calling on member states adhering to the principles of international law to reject the project to protect the organization. The risk of transforming it from a technical organization into a platform for the United States and its allies to exert pressure and target a state party to the agreement, which will have serious repercussions on the future of its work and cooperation with it.
