Rape by soldiers in Niger: "inadmissible"

The High Representative of the Coalition for the Sahel, Djimé Adoum, on Wednesday April 7 ruled

the acts of rape committed in Niger by Chadian soldiers engaged in the fight against jihadists in the Sahel.

Chadian soldiers are accused of the rape of several women in Tera, a town in southwestern Niger, where a contingent from their country is based as part of the multinational force of the G5 Sahel.

“When you are in such a force, you are your country's ambassador.

So what happened is unacceptable, unacceptable, and it is a lesson for all the boys present in our Sahelian space ”

, declared Djimé Adoum in front of journalists during a trip to Mauritania, one of the countries of the

G5 Sahel.

"Already, we have a lot of problems in our space, we do not need and we cannot tolerate that such acts can take place"

, added the High representative of this coalition, a coordination structure launched in Pau ( southwest of France) in January 2020 by the member states of the G5 Sahel and its international partners to collectively face the challenges of the sub-region.

A contingent of 1,200 Chadian soldiers was recently deployed in the area known as the Three Borders (Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali) where Tera is located.
