The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed today that Baghdad and Washington have agreed that there will be no combat forces in Iraq and that the existing forces will be deployed outside the country within a specific timetable.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahhaf said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency "INA" that the presence of American forces has become limited to consulting and training inside Iraqi bases, indicating that the American forces will be deployed outside Iraq within a specific timetable.
He added that the negotiations with America were held under the full auspices of Iraqi sovereignty.
Last year, the Iraqi parliament voted by an absolute majority on a resolution obliging the Iraqi government to end the foreign presence in the country after the US crimes against Iraqi military headquarters, Iraqi military leaders and high-level friends.
