Will a law be enough to save regional languages from their slow decline?
This is what the defenders of Breton, Basque or Occitan are hoping for while the text relating to the heritage protection and the promotion of these languages must be examined this Thursday at second reading at the National Assembly, in favor of a parliamentary niche.
It was Paul Molac, a member of the Liberties and Territories group, who was at the origin of this bill comprising two parts, one of which, relating to education, aroused opposition from the government.
"It's hard to reverse the machine,
admits the member for Morbihan,
but it would be the first real law on regional languages since the beginning of the Fifth Republic: a historic opportunity."
On condition that the deputies adopt the text as amended by the Senate.
