(CNN) -

Tiger Woods was driving at a speed of 140 kilometers per hour when his Genesis SUV crashed on February 23 in Southern California, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced at a news conference Wednesday.

Villanueva said Woods was driving at a speed "unsafe for the road conditions and the inability to handle the curve" in the road.

It hit a tree at 120 kilometers per hour, Villanueva said.

Woods was not mentioned and showed no signs of deterioration.

Tiger Woods' car collided with the tree, flew off, and performed a "pirouette" before landing, Capt. James Powers said.

Due to his injuries, "field sobriety tests would not be appropriate," Capt. Powers said.

He probably mistook the gas pedal for the brake and no braking was detected, Captain Powers said.

The golf legend suffered serious leg injuries and spent several weeks in the hospital before returning home to continue his recovery.

Woods, 45, was driving in Rancho Palos Verdes when he hit a "Welcome to Rolling Hills Estates" sign, crossed a center divider, and traveled more than 150 feet through brush and an uprooted tree before stopping, according to an affidavit. of a search warrant from the vehicle data logger.
