Vaccination of adults over 80 years of age begins in El Salvador

The Government of El Salvador announced that it has begun to vaccinate adults over 80 years of age. Also those over 50 with underlying diseases.

The Ministry of Health of El Salvador announced that this Wednesday it began to vaccinate against covid-19 adults over 80 years old and people over 50 years old with pre-existing diseases.

This sector of the population is part of the second phase of vaccination, as explained by the Minister of Health, Francisco Alabí.

Residents in centers for the elderly are vaccinated within the same facilities to reduce the risk of infection, according to the information.

Alabí said there are 58 registered senior centers, but did not say how many people live there.

In the case of adults who are not in care centers, the health authorities enabled the portal http://www.vacunacioncovid19.gob.sv on Tuesday night so that those over 80 and over 50 with Pre-existing chronic degenerative diseases sign up for vaccination, the government noted.

"Those who cannot make use of technology or do not have the tools know that their children or a relative can help them enroll," said Alabí.

After those over 80 years of age, the time, day and place of vaccination will be scheduled for those over 70, 60 and 50 years respectively, according to the schedule of the authorities.

To date, according to the government, more than 160,000 people have received the first dose of the covid-19 vaccine.

The first phase included front-line medical personnel and support personnel in the containment of the covid-19 pandemic.

A report from the presidency of El Salvador indicates that the government of China donated 150,000 doses of the CoronaVac vaccine to this country.
