The intelligentization of the engineering industry is a global development trend, and the application of intelligent technology is integrated in construction engineering, power engineering and even environmental protection engineering.

The Vocational Training Council (VTC) was supported by China Light & Power Co., Ltd. (CLP Power) to establish the "CLP Power Engineering Laboratory".

The laboratory is equipped with advanced professional training facilities to cultivate professionals with relevant knowledge and technologies such as smart grids and high-voltage power to support the development of the power engineering industry and low-carbon smart cities.

VTC works closely with the industry to cultivate power engineering talents

Stable and reliable power supply is an important pillar of social and economic development, and behind it depends on the professional support of technical and engineering personnel.

VTC has cultivated countless technical professionals for the industry over the years by offering professional courses related to power engineering.

With the support of CLP, VTC established the "CLP Power Engineering Laboratory" at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) Keking Wong College to provide young people and industry professionals with aspirations to develop the power engineering business with professions that closely follow the development of the industry. Training helps them to develop steadily on the professional road.

The laboratory opened at the beginning of the month. The Chief Secretary for Administration Zhang Jianzong delivered a pre-recorded speech at the ceremony, stating that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, with green infrastructure equipped with smart power supply systems, and developing Hong Kong into a world-class smart city Particularly important.

The Secretary for Innovation and Technology Xue Yongheng attended the ceremony and mentioned that the opening of the "CLP Power Engineering Laboratory" is a model of collaboration between the academic community and the industry, helping to nurture a new generation of power engineering professionals and promote Hong Kong's smart city. Develop and build a smart Hong Kong.

VTC Chairman Dai Zetang thanked China Light & Power for its support. The new training facility will provide a diversified learning platform for more than 500 students taking electrical engineering courses every year.

CLP Power Chairman Mao Jada hopes that the establishment of the "CLP Power Engineering Laboratory" will nurture a new generation of power engineering professionals full of innovative ideas and equipped with smart grid technology to jointly build a greener Hong Kong.

Master the professional development of smart grid technology connection

The newly established "CLP Power Engineering Laboratory" is mainly divided into two parts, the "Smart Grid Operation Center" and the "High Voltage Training Center". The "Smart Grid Operation Center" is equipped with a real-time smart grid simulation and detection system, which can simulate the community in real time. The power supply situation and analysis data allow students to understand the operating principles of smart grids, so as to explore contingency plans and improve energy efficiency.

The "Smart Grid Operation Center" in the laboratory is equipped with a real-time smart grid simulation and detection system that can simulate the power supply situation in the community and analyze data.

Kyle, a graduate of the VTC Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering, currently works as a first-level engineer at CLP Power, responsible for the development of smart grid systems, monitoring the daily operation of the grid, and improving power supply efficiency to maintain a safe and reliable power supply.

Kyle said that VTC's course content has both theory and practice, fully equipping him to join the power engineering industry.

"The knowledge of power engineering, programming, data transmission and analysis, and other technologies that I learned while studying for the Higher Diploma have laid a solid foundation for me." He believes that the establishment of the "CLP Power Engineering Laboratory" will help students master smart grids. New technologies in this area will enhance the advantages of career development.

After graduating for many years, Kyle has not forgotten to take further studies. He has obtained bachelor's and master's degrees from three local universities and has obtained the qualification of registered engineer.

Kyle, a graduate of VTC's Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering, said that VTC's professional courses have laid a solid foundation for his development in the electrical engineering industry.

He is convinced that the industry has good prospects and hopes that more young people will join the industry to jointly build Hong Kong into a smart city.

High-voltage training center helps people in the industry obtain H-licensed qualifications

The "High-Voltage Training Center" in the new laboratory provides training courses for high-voltage power (ie H-level registered electrical workers) approved by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department for persons other than power companies.

The center is equipped with a high-voltage switchgear remote monitoring and status monitoring system to help students master the operation, fault diagnosis and safety procedures of high-voltage power installations.

Those in the industry who have completed relevant professional courses and meet the required requirements can apply to become H-level registered electrical engineers for high-voltage power related work.

Zhang Yonghao, chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Mechanical and Electrical Industry Trade Unions, has been in the industry for many years and has a master's degree.

He said that with the digitization of cities, the development of smart grids, and the development of large-scale infrastructure projects, the industry's demand for high-voltage power engineers has become more intense.

After completing the first electrical engineering professional diploma course jointly organized by VTC and China Electric Power Institute three years ago, he successfully obtained the H-level registered electrical engineering qualification and can undertake high-voltage electrical engineering related projects.

He pointed out: "In the past, only power companies provided relevant training to help employees obtain professional qualifications for high-voltage power engineering jobs. VTC's electric power engineering professional courses will undoubtedly open up new ways for people in the industry to learn, obtain professional qualifications, and increase career development opportunities. ."

Zhang Yonghao, chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Electrical and Mechanical Industry Trade Unions, said that VTC's electrical engineering professional courses provide the industry with a way to obtain professional qualifications and increase career development opportunities.
