“Believe, they want to knock us out”: residents over Easter without heating and hot water - it's not the first time

Around 200 tenants in Fürstenfeldbruck had neither heating nor hot water during the Easter days and sat in the freezing cold.

They had already had to freeze in January.

On Maundy Thursday the heating was suddenly cold, and only ice-cold water came out of the tap.

“I'm sitting in the apartment with a thick sweater and pants,” says the resident.

“Your fingers are ice cold.” To shower, she drove to her sister's.

But many families with young children could not help themselves.

Another tenant speculates: “I almost think they want to knock us out.” He makes do with a woolen blanket.

Failure of heating and hot water: Fault reported in Fürstenfeldbruck

The residents immediately reported the malfunction on Maundy Thursday, which was also confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Dawonia house company, which manages the apartment blocks.

“They say the emergency service is working on it,” says a tenant.

Sometimes there is no answer at all, one is thrown off the line after a quarter of an hour, complains another resident.

The technician reacted immediately and was on site several times, the spokeswoman said.

But the damage could not be permanently repaired.

In January, too, it took several days for the damage to be repaired.

At that time it was an electrical fault in the control of the heating system.

This time the cause is different, as the spokeswoman explains.

“The system's control system was damaged by a short circuit in a submersible pump.” The required spare parts have been ordered and will be installed immediately after delivery, they say.

About the Easter days in freezing cold: The system must be renewed

The technicians opened an emergency valve on the district heating system in order to at least temporarily supply the apartments with heating and hot water.

That succeeded because it actually got warm for a few hours, reports one tenant.

"But then it was cold again." The residents are angry about the repeated heating failures.

Especially since last time it was assured that there would no longer be a total failure.

So that the residents do not have to sit in the cold again until the spare parts are there, a so-called hotmobile will be set up, explains the spokeswoman for Dawonia.

This device should supply the system with heat again - as a temporary solution.

But on Wednesday afternoon it was still cold in the four affected apartment blocks.
