Corona problems? Not at BMW. With its subsidiary brands Mini and Rolls-Royce, the car company had the best starting quarter in its history in 2021.

Corona problems?

Not at BMW.

With its subsidiary brands Mini and Rolls-Royce, the car company had the best starting quarter in its history in 2021.

Munich - BMW * started the 2021 financial year with a sales record.

636,606 vehicles of the brands BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce were delivered - 33.5 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.

After all, 70,207 of the newly launched cars were plug-in hybrids or fully electric cars.

BMW is clearly relying on the battery as the sole energy storage device.

In addition to the already announced SUV BMW iX * and the i4 in the middle class, there will soon also be fully electric versions of the 5, 7, X1 and the future Mini Countryman.

Every second vehicle should be fully electric by 2030.

At Mini *, this goal is already being striven for in 2027.

BMW increases sales in the first quarter of 2021 - but this does not apply to Germany

The amazing thing: Despite Corona, BMW also sold 8.9 percent more cars in Europe in the first quarter of 2020 than a year earlier.

In Germany, on the other hand, sales fell by 0.3 percent.

The main reason for the strong growth is the BMW demand in Asia *: In China, deliveries shot up by 97.3 percent to 229,784, in the USA by 20.1 percent to 77,718.

BMW was also extremely successful in South Korea, which was barely paralyzed by the pandemic, where cars were sold in 2031 - 42.8 percent more than a year ago.

Sales Manager Pieter Nota said: "This record sales underscores our ambitious growth targets for this year."

BMW Munich: 3 Series gains the most - that means sales for German production facilities

The BMW model * that was able to grow the most is the mid-range: The 3 Series increased by 44 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.

The export successes are not only good news for the German locations.

As BMW is following sales and moving production around the world, it is becoming clear where future growth will take place.

While the BMW brand handed over 36.2 percent more cars to customers worldwide, the Mini was only 16.7 percent more.

BMW explains this with the "low footprint on the Chinese market".

In contrast, the luxury brand Rolls-Royce turned out to be a bestseller.

1,380 of the British luxury cars were delivered - 61.8 percent more than in the first quarter of 2020. This was the best starting quarter for the brand in its 116-year history.

In autumn 2020, however, the Corona scenario at BMW was still different: Because the financial situation was not in good shape, the premium brand annoyed some suppliers.
