European Court: Children can be required to be vaccinated
A dramatic ruling rejected a petition by Czech parents, whose children were not vaccinated against certain diseases or were not admitted to school for this reason.
"These steps can be seen as necessary in a democratic society," the court ruled, "its decision could have an impact on corona vaccination on the continent."

European Court: Children can be forced to get vaccinated (Photo: Reuters)
The European Court of Human Rights ruled today (Thursday) that vaccinations can also be required in democratic societies, in a precedent-setting ruling following a complaint by Czech families against charging vaccines to children.
"These steps can be seen as 'necessary in a democratic society'," the court ruled, noting that Czech health policy is in line with the "best interests" of children.
"The goal must be for every child to be protected from serious illness, through vaccines or through a herd vaccine," it stated.
In light of this ruling, the court ruled that there was no violation of Article Eight of the European Convention on Human Rights, which deals with the right to privacy.
This is the first time the court has issued a ruling regarding mandatory vaccines against childhood diseases.
Experts say this could have implications for a charge of immunization against the corona as the epidemic continues to rage.

The Czech Republic requires vaccinating children against nine diseases, including diphtheria, tetanus, jaundice and measles.
The petition was filed by Czech parents who were fined after refusing to comply with the vaccination obligation or parents whose children were refused admission to schools for the same reason.
The need for widespread herd immunity to eradicate the corona epidemic has sparked a debate over the possibility of forcing citizens to be vaccinated against the virus, in the face of fears of vaccine opponents around the world
