Wolfratshausen

- The city of Wolfratshausen has officially been awarded the title “Bicycle-friendly municipality” since 2018.

Cyclists still complain about risky sections of the route and the lack of parking space.

The City Council's Environment Officer.

Dr.

Hans Schmidt (Greens), therefore submitted an extensive catalog of questions to the town hall.

Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner (BVW) provided answers at the latest city council meeting.

Greens spokesman Schmidt stated: “There is a lack of bicycle parking spaces in the city center.” He wanted information about which places are planned for additional two-wheeler parking spaces.

According to Heilinglechner, there are some public parking spaces in the old town “around the train station, in front of the library, in the inner courtyard of the town hall, along Marktstrasse and along the western bank of the Loisach”.

A generous expansion of the offer in the city center is difficult: "The existing sidewalk widths in the upper and lower market do not allow any additional systems." In connection with the redesign of Marktstrasse, ”said Heilinglechner.

When the next steps in the redesign are due is currently unclear.

What is clear, however, is that roofed bicycle racks are to be erected on the western bank of the Loisach to replace the recently demolished facility at the Japanese garden.

“Wherever possible and requested by the city council,” further shelters are conceivable.

In his own words, Schmidt has been complaining about dangerous situations on Königsdorfer Straße "for years", where a cycle lane is being considered.

Heilinglechner explains that only a one-sided protective strip can be considered for this point, "because of the cramped conditions in the roadway and the side space".

Such a model is currently being tested on Sauerlacher Strasse - a result of the model project is still pending.

“That remains to be seen,” said Heilinglechner.

In this context, the town hall chief would also like to inform the committee at which traffic lights in the city area parking lanes are possible for cyclists.

Despite a unanimous decision by the building committee to “have it checked in front of the main traffic lights in Wolfratshausen”, last year such a lane marking was only created at the intersection at the cemetery, as environmental officer Schmidt criticized.
