At the request of the state:

The Supreme Court in its tribe as the High Court ruled today (Thursday) that the Attorney General and the Minister of Education are the ones who will decide with the pro-boycott professor to receive the Israel Prize.

Prof. Oded Goldreich has signed a petition calling on the European Union to end its cooperation with institutions or programs related to the European Union with Ariel University.

Prof. Goldreich was selected by the Prize Committee for his work in the field of mathematics and computer science research, for his work on computational complexity.

The court gave Minister Yoav Galant and Attorney General Dr. Avichai Mandelblit time to examine whether the Law for the Prevention of Harassment in the State of Israel, 2011, has implications for our case.

At the beginning of the decision, the judges wrote: "We stand almost on the eve of Independence Day and once again we are required, as a recurring ritual, to engage in the Israel Prize. Indeed, it is to be regretted that such a prestigious and prestigious award and event "Disagreement and division. In view of the time frame, and with the consent of the respondents of the state, the hearing before us was conducted as if a conditional order had been issued."

This is a unique petition when the judges' committee itself petitioned the court after the Minister of Education has so far rejected the committee's recommendation.

"The corpus of rulings accumulated on the subject of the Israel Prize is before us: there is no dispute about the independence of the professional judgment of the members of the jury.

There is no doubt about the pure professional nature of the award for its prestige and reputation.

It is stated in the decision that in general, for the purpose of awarding the prize, there is no relevance to the non-professional "private" non-professional statements of the winner of the prize,

In any case, the court decided after considering the petition and hearing the parties' arguments, at this stage to accept the Attorney General's position that the Minister of Education should be allowed to examine information he received only two days ago, and that his case was signed by Prof. Goldreich and published only two weeks ago. According to Prof. Goldreich's statement that his signature on the petition was made in January this year, even before the decision to win the prize).

The petition in question is a "reminder" and a call for the EU to stop collaborations of institutions or programs related to the EU with Ariel University.

Prof. Goldreich stated through his attorney that he was behind his aforementioned signature, and further stated and clarified that he did not support the BDS movement.

The Minister and the Attorney General sought to examine whether the Law for the Prevention of Harassment in the State of Israel, 2011, has an impact on our case. This, given that a call for a boycott may in certain circumstances, and without setting rivets at this stage, fall within those exceptional circumstances. It will have to consider considerations that are not purely professional. "
