Numbers chaos in Munich over Easter: regions in Bavaria are loosening up - but the current incidences are probably deceptive

After the city of Munich, the Weilheim-Schongau, Starnberg and Rosenheim districts are also loosening the Corona emergency brake.

But the informative value of the numbers is questionable.

Munich - From Thursday, Andreas Haindl will be able to reopen his Intersport stores in Gilching and Planegg for customers with an appointment.

Because the Starnberg district was three days below the incidence value * of 100 - and is therefore allowed to loosen the so-called Corona * emergency brake again in accordance with the Bavarian Infection Protection Ordinance.

But the back and forth causes head shaking among customers and retailers: “The customers don't know their way around anymore, and neither do we,” says Haindl.

The confusion is great - not only in Starnberg.

Bavaria: Corona emergency brake in Munich and parts of Bavaria lifted again - but how long?

Other regions in Upper Bavaria are also reacting to partially lower incidence figures over the Easter weekend.

In addition to the city of Munich, the districts of Weilheim-Schongau and Rosenheim are also loosening their regulations again.

Throughout Bavaria, the incidence value fell slightly from 142 on Maundy Thursday to Wednesday to 129.

But how meaningful are the numbers that the Robert Koch Institute * (RKI) published over the Easter holidays?

The RKI itself points out that caution is required when interpreting this.

But when it comes to the question of how many health authorities have reported their numbers regularly over the holidays, the information varies.

According to research by “Zeit Online”, only around half of the district authorities reported new figures on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday across Germany.

The RKI, on the other hand, announced on request that no new cases had been submitted for only 15 of the 412 districts.

The Bavarian State Office for Health, in turn, states that it received figures from 51 of the 76 health authorities in Bavaria on Easter Sunday or Monday.

However, it cannot be ruled out that fewer tests were carried out because the doctor's offices were closed.

The RKI assumes that the number of tests will only return to a comparable level after the holidays.

Coronavirus: Numbers chaos in Munich - How accurate is the picture in Bavaria?

Does that mean a flood of late registrations in the next few days?

While in Munich the picture over Easter was actually distorted because the numbers were reported according to the city, but did not reach the RKI, the authorities elsewhere are not so sure.

A spokeswoman emphasized that work and reports were carried out continuously in the Bad Tölz health department on the Easter weekend.

Nevertheless, the number of infected people remained constant at around 150.

Test centers also work over the holidays: however, some offices do not transmit corona numbers

Further tests * were also evaluated in the laboratories over the holidays, emphasizes Cornelia Wanke from the Professional Association of Accredited Medical Laboratories in Germany - albeit in part with emergency staff.

The Dachau district, for example, had an incidence of 203 on April 1, and 135 again on Wednesday. "We were continuously manned in the health department and reported," emphasizes District Office spokesman Wolfgang Reichelt.

In a new test station, more than 700 rapid tests were carried out over Easter - with five positive results.

So there could be no question of a test break.

"However, the trend will not be meaningful again until next week," says Reichelt.

Because while the health department did not open a single new case on Easter Sunday, there were already 20 positive results by Wednesday afternoon.

For retailers and their customers in Starnberg, Weilheim or Munich, they continue to fear whether the emergency brake will have to be applied again soon.
