Nurullah Burhani must fear being deported to Afghanistan.

Because the Moosburger tailor does not get a job - because of Corona.

Moosburg

- Nurullah Burhani was one of many Afghans who no longer received a work permit from the district office in 2017.

But the 38-year-old was the first asylum seeker in Bavaria to take legal action against the work bans.

Successfully.

He was allowed to begin his training in Gabi Urban's tailoring shop in Moosburg.

Bavaria: Tailoring hardly gets any orders in the lockdown - and cannot take on trainees

Although Burhani is a trained tailor, the past three years have not always been easy for him.

He had to learn a lot of technical terms for the vocational school.

Urban helped him with his exams.

“He often studied until his head was smoking,” she says.

It was there a few weeks ago - the day Nurullah Burhani had been working so long towards.

He passed the training.

Actually, that would be a nice ending to the story of a successful integration.

But again Burhani has to fear deportation to Afghanistan - and this time the pandemic is to blame.

To get a two-year tolerance, he would have to stand financially on his own two feet and provide evidence of a job in his apprenticeship.

The former is not a problem, he lives in a shared apartment and no longer receives any financial help from the state.

Corona in Bavaria: No new hires possible during short-time work

And his boss Gabi Urban would be only too happy to take him over.

“I was always very happy with him,” she says.

However, she has a problem: her tailoring hardly receives any orders due to the corona.

Nobody is currently having a wedding or ball gown tailored.

Therefore Urban had to send her part-time worker on short-time work.

And no new hires are possible during short-time work.

Therefore, Nurullah is not allowed to take it over.

This is my only chance.

“I would need income or orders to end short-time work,” she says.

Urban has expanded her online shop - in the hope that she will soon need lots of hands on the sewing machines again.

Corona in the Freising district: Schneider threatens deportation - but he does not give up

For Nurullah Burhani, that would save them from deportation.

He has already written many applications - but to no avail.

Because other tailors are also struggling to survive and are not hiring.

But the 38-year-old wants to keep trying.

He says: "This is my only chance."

The fact that Astrazeneca will soon only be vaccinated in general practitioners' practices does not affect operations in the Freising vaccination center.

On the contrary - the division of labor helps.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our new, regular Freising newsletter.
