During the "Memory in the Living Room" event with the participation of the Israeli Ambassador to Italy, hackers broke into the conversation yesterday (Wednesday) - and drew swastikas on the common screen during the conversation.

Neo-Nazis painted swastikas in a zoom conversation with the participation of the Israeli ambassador to Italy

The ambassador, Dr. Dror Eder, said that the event, which took place on the occasion of Holocaust Martyrs 'and Heroes' Remembrance Day, was also attended by Professor Milena Santorini, the commissioner and chairman of the Italian Committee for the Adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Force (IHRA).

He said during the conversation, Santorini submitted a detailed document in which anti-Semitic bills were written in Italy.

"I was asked to give an opening speech in a conversation, when suddenly a kind of noise started and someone started shouting and drawing swastikas on the screen. Prof. Santorini, who teaches at a Catholic university, started shouting at the person who did it 'How do you use this death symbol?'" Eder told " Israel today".

"At the same time, we abolished the common screen so that they could not continue to paint and brought down the people who infiltrated the conversation. This is proof that there is still antisemitic fringe in Europe."

Dr. Eder wanted to point out that the majority of the Italian public is sympathetic and loves Israel: “There is solidarity with us here, and I too as ambassador spoke in the Italian Senate against the boycott activities on Israel and against anti-Semitism.

I felt that there was a listening ear for things, which was also expressed in Santorini's legal document. "

"In Israel we do not encounter antisemitic sentences, but in Italy I have adapted to the sensitive ear of the local Jewish community, which knows how to understand what a neutral sentence is and what an antisemitic expression should not be on the agenda," he added.

"It's a sensitivity that sometimes seems unimportant, but it's very important and one should not remain silent about such expressions."
