Citibank today (8th) announced the results of the "Hong Kong Multimillionaires Survey 2020". The survey was conducted from November 2020 to January 2021. More than 4,000 Hong Kong residents aged 21 to 79 were randomly interviewed by telephone.

Citibank estimates that by the end of 2020, there are as many as 515,000 multi-millionaires with net assets worth 10 million Hong Kong dollars or more, and at least 1 million Hong Kong dollars in current assets, accounting for 8.7% of Hong Kong’s population aged 21 to 79. That is, one out of every 12 Hong Kong people is a multi-millionaire, a record high in surveys over the years, but the median net asset value has dropped from RMB 17 million by RMB 1.5 million to RMB 15.5 million.

The survey is based on 18 districts. The district with the highest density of multimillionaires in Hong Kong is the Eastern District, which is as high as 19%, followed by the Southern District (18%), and the third is the Central and Western District (17%).

The density of outlying islands is at least 2%. Kwai Tsing and Tuen Mun also rank second at 3%.

How do multi-millionaires view the Hong Kong property market in the coming year?

More than half of the rich people interviewed held a wait-and-see attitude towards the property market, and only 15% were optimistic about the property market.

When asked where they are interested in disposing of businesses, most multimillionaires are interested in buying properties in the UK, accounting for 16%, followed by Mainland China (14%), and Hong Kong is only ranked third (8%).
