2021-04-08T18:25:31.604Z

The number of unaccompanied minor migrants on the US southern border has grown rapidly - to almost 19,000 in March alone. The children are often completely overwhelmed, as the pictures of the border guards show.

On April 1, US border guards met a ten-year-old child near the border with Mexico.

The boy from Nicaragua asks for help and tells tearfully that he has been left completely alone.

Border guard

“You left you all alone?

You're not out with mom or dad, are you?

Are you traveling with mom or dad? "

Boy

“No, not with anyone.

I was traveling with a group and wanted to face you.

You left me behind, then I looked for help. "

The ten-year-old boy is one of many unaccompanied minors trying to get from Mexico to the United States.

Alejandro Mayorkas, US Secretary of Homeland Security

“Your families made the heartbreaking decision to send you on a trip to Mexico for a better and safer future.

The previous administration deported these unaccompanied children, including girls under 12, to Mexico.

We have finished this practice. "

Adults and families alike are immediately sent back to Mexico under the Biden government.

Unaccompanied children, on the other hand, are placed in special camps or homes while their asylum applications are examined.

Oscar Escamilla, border official

»The children cross the border alone.

The parents, of course, pay smugglers or drug cartel members or smugglers to take the child over.

You take it to the river, put it on a raft and say, OK, go.

There will be a border guard over there. "

The number of people trying to get into the US has increased sharply over the past year.

On the southern border of the USA, there were almost three times as many border crossings as there were a year ago.

In March, the number of unaccompanied minors was 9,457, according to the border protection agency.

100,000 people were caught trying to cross the southern border in February alone.

Whether from Honduras, Guatemala or Nicaragua, they all hope for a better life in the USA - the

"

land of immigrants", as Joe Biden now called it in his welcoming speech for people who have been newly naturalized.

Joe Biden, US President

“Every immigrant comes to America for different reasons, but they all have one thing in common: courage.

The courage it takes to make the sacrifice of this journey, the courage to leave your home, your life, your loved ones, in order to come to a nation that is more than a place - namely an idea. "

The Republicans accuse Joe Biden that his relaxed asylum policy is the reason for the increase in border crossings.

Biden denied that and presented his new old plan for the border.

Joe Biden, US President

“You have to approach the problem the way I did when I was Vice President, with a bipartisan plan and $ 700 million to address the root causes of displacement.

What did Trump do?

He canceled the money. "

The ten-year-old boy from Nicaragua received medical care and was first taken to a camp for unaccompanied minors.

Vice-President Kamala Harris should see to it that children like him don't even have to leave their homes.

He thinks, said Joe Biden, that by doing this he gave her a "hard job."
