PORTRAIT - Who is hiding behind the one who shared the life of Michel Fourniret for more than twenty years? A look back at the journey of a mother who, "out of love", becomes the accomplice of a pedophile and serial killer who repeatedly offends .

Prisoner would like to correspond with anyone of any age to forget loneliness

”.

It was probably while reading this ad in the weekly

Le Pèlerin

that Monique Olivier's life was turned upside down.

These words are written by Michel Fourniret, imprisoned in Fleury-Mérogis prison, in Essonne, for several sexual assaults.

Monique Olivier, mother of two boys and recently divorced, decides to embark on a long letter correspondence with this prisoner of whom she knows nothing, hoping, perhaps, to overcome his loneliness.

But over the letters, a diabolical pact emerges between the couple, the objective of which is "to

unravel the mystery of virginity"

.

If Monique Olivier has long covered Michel Fourniret, in particular by providing him with an alibi in the Estelle Mouzin affair, almost 20 years after the facts, the latter now accuses her former lover of having kidnapped, raped and strangled little Estelle.

Monday April 5, his ex-partner directs the investigators to the place where Estelle Mouzin would be buried and reveals to have accompanied the killer to bury the body.

Faced with an increasingly senile and bedridden Michel Fourniret, Monique Olivier turns out to be the privileged interlocutor of the investigators.

But how could a woman, whom nothing foreshadowed to become the accomplice of a serial killer, fall into horror?

Take revenge on men thanks to "his Lino Ventura"

"

When I met her, Monique Olivier was a lump of butter, she presented herself as a poor little damaged and despised flower

", recalls the expert psychiatrist Daniel Zagury, interviewed by

Le Figaro.

"

But she appears to be a real manipulator, endowed with great intelligence, especially given her IQ of 130,

" he continues.

The specialist spoke at length with her, while he was trying to understand her role in the crimes committed by Michel Fourniret.

Born in October 1948, Monique Olivier says she feels scorned by her father and ignored by her mother, depressed and too concerned about her own mother's state of health to be interested in her children.

Young, she hesitates to "

do medicine

" or "to

become a hairdresser

", quotes

Le Parisien

.

She claims that her virginity was "

stolen

" from her by a man with whom she had signed a first white marriage.

A marriage ensues with André Michaux, with whom Monique has two sons.

"If Monique Olivier had not met Michel Fourniret, she would never have become a criminal"

Daniel Zagury, expert psychiatrist

During our interview, Monique Olivier treats her first husband of all names, she describes him as the worst of men, which is striking when we know that it is he who took care of their children, including the one she had with Michel Fourniret

”, reports Daniel Zagury, stressing that the criminal is consumed by a perennial hatred towards men, a powerful desire for revenge and a fierce desire to switch roles.

"

Monique Olivier was fed up with being the victim, she wanted to reverse the trend, make victims so as not to be anymore

", and become a torturer in her turn.

But Monique was not a potential criminal, the psychiatrist is convinced: "

if Monique Olivier had not met Michel Fourniret, she would never have become a criminal

".

It could have been a banal love story, between a prisoner and a devoted young woman, but Monique Olivier's alliance with Michel Fourniret gave birth to a monstrous couple.

Fourniret nicknamed her "Natushka", in reference to her readings of Dostoyevsky, and she, she calls him her "Sheer Kahn", in reference to

the Jungle Book

, where this character is none other than a tiger-eating tiger. men.

She wanted a Lino Ventura,

” explains Michel Fourniret to Daniel Zagury, when the latter asks him about his relationship with Monique Olivier.

From these honeyed nicknames and their heated exchanges is born a pact between the two terrible lovers: Monique will share with Michel her obsession with virginity, and Michel will satisfy for Monique his desire for revenge on men.

"We will marry in front of men and, united by distant bonds of conventions, we will never be the wonderful lovers that we could have been if trust had been able to abolish all barriers at the risk of recognizing each other as two monsters, but so infinitely tenderly. in love with each other

”, is it written in one of their letters, which is similar to an unofficial marriage contract, definitively sealing their collaboration.

From correspondence to "four-handed murders"

In October 1987, Michel Fourniret was finally released for "

exemplary conduct

".

Monique and Michel married in July 1989 and settled in Saint-Cyr-les-Colons, in Yonne.

They have together a son, Sélim Fourniret, born in September 1988. During his psychiatric expertise, Michel Fourniret assured the experts "

that there was no love

" between him and Monique, but that he perceived himself as a protector who "

compensated

" for the "

forced resignation

" of Monique "

with regard to his family"

.

He also says he sees her as a "

good mother

" who "

never spent a night without telling Selim a story to fall asleep

."

Only one thing bothers Fourniret a little: Monique's independence of character.

So Fourniret says he is developing “

a relational strategy to dominate it

”.

The couple committed their first murder only three months after their installation: Michel Fourniret kidnapped, raped and then killed in December 1987 Isabelle Laville, a young 17-year-old girl.

Michel Fourniret spots her and Monique, alone in her car, approaches her, asks her for information, and makes her board the vehicle.

A little further, Monique stops to bring up Michel Fourniret, who plays the role of the hitchhiker.

He makes Isabelle Laville swallow a sedative, rapes her and, in panic, strangles her and throws her into a well.

From that day on, the couple's life will be punctuated by a terrible quest for young virgins, those they nickname the “

MSP

”, the “

membranes on legs

”.

"

Unable to offer her her virginity, Monique Olivier offered Michel Fourniret virginity by proxy

", breathes Daniel Zagury.

Fabienne Leroy in 1988, Jeanne-Marie Desramault and Elisabeth Brichet in 1989, Natacha Danaïs in 1990, Céline Saison in 2000, Manyana Thumpong in 2001 ... For several years, these “

two monsters

” worked hand in hand, kidnapping, sequestering and killing young girls across France.

Monique does not hesitate to use her pregnancy as bait, and "

takes care of washing the girls and keeping them

" before delivering them to Fourniret.

Asked by AFP on the Estelle Mouzin affair, of which Michel Fourniret confessed the murder, the lawyer of Estelle's father, Me Didier Seban, assures us to see in the modus operandi of the couple, for each victim, a "

murder at four hands

”.

"How could you resist the cries of the little girls?"

In 2008, Michel Fourniret was sentenced to irreducible life imprisonment for the murders of seven young girls between 1987 and 2001, and Monique Olivier, accused of aiding and abetting murder and not denouncing murder, also received a life sentence with a penalty. 28-year security period.

With pursed lips, drawn features and an indifferent gaze, Monique Olivier seems to sweep the assembly with her eyes as if what was happening on May 28, 2008 at the Assize Court in the Ardennes had no importance.

This indifference has often been criticized.

"

How could you resist the cries of the little girls?"

", Calls out one of her fellow prisoners, Milica Petrovic, in 2020."

I kept the victims as the guards who keep us here

", she would have replied according to her fellow inmate, quoted in

Le Monde

.

But Monique, who seemed to provide infallible support to Michel Fourniret, now seems to be a game-changer, positioning herself as the key to the mystery in the Estelle Mouzin affair by revealing the place where her corpse would be buried.

But why did you wait 18 years to tell the truth?

For Daniel Zagury, Monique Olivier never wanted to protect Michel Fourniret: “

all this time, she was protecting herself.

If she is speaking today, it is because trust has grown between her and the new investigating judge.

What is certain is that Monique Olivier has never been Michel Fourniret's muse, but she is the one who allowed him to fulfill his destiny

”.
