The Murnau market set itself a major goal last year: the municipal administration should be climate-neutral by 2030.

The corresponding application had come from the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group.

But what has happened since then?

  • In 2020 the municipal council decided that the Murnau administration should become climate neutral by 2030.

  • In the opinion of the children and youth representatives, too little progress is being made in this regard.

  • A spokesman also complained about a lack of transparency.

Murnau

- Too little has happened in Murnau in terms of climate neutrality.

This is the opinion of the first spokesman for the Murnau Children's and Youth Representation (KJV), Tim Sedlmaier.

The 15-year-old complains that no concept has yet been presented to the public.

Sedlmaier, who is a member of the local Green Association and is also involved in Fridays For Future, describes this as a “major neglect”.

In his opinion, citizens should know what has been done since the decision.

In a survey, three quarters of the 150 children, adolescents and young adults from the village said that the municipality is doing too little or nothing at all in the area of environmental protection.

This was carried out by the KJV this year.

Check out the community

As part of a political body that represents the interests of Murnau's youth, Sedlmaier wants to put the community to the test.

“It's about preserving the earth for future generations,” he emphasizes.

For this reason, the Free State has launched a climate protection offensive that demands climate neutrality from the state and municipalities.

The aim is for Bavaria to become the first climate-neutral federal state by 2050 at the latest.

In order to achieve this, the communities have to go along with it.

Murnau has committed itself to this with the resolution.

Town hall: Some points implemented

Town hall spokeswoman Annika Röttinger announced that some points in terms of climate neutrality have already been implemented or suggested.

As examples, she cites several electric vehicles that are part of the market's service fleet.

“There should be more and more.” In addition, company pedelecs were purchased with the aim of “making the switch to bikes even more attractive, especially in urban areas”.

The supply of renewable energies has also advanced in Murnau.

According to Röttinger, all public buildings that could be converted are supplied with renewable energies.

Sustainable office equipment

The spokeswoman also enumerates the energetic renovation of the town hall, municipal works and building authority.

Furthermore, they are in the process of “converting office processes from analog to digital”.

According to Röttinger, sustainable office equipment with recycled materials is in the works.

This week, paper scraps from the local printing company Wiesendanger will also be taken over.

Together with the Papierretter initiative from Riegsee, the market is committed to “ensuring that flawless leftovers continue to be used and do not have to be disposed of.” An “Energy & Climate Protection” working group was also set up to deal with the issue of climate-neutral administration, among other things.

The group, which includes not only Sedlmaier, but also representatives from politics and nature conservation, met for the first time last week.

Röttinger speaks of a "very constructive exchange".

Sedlmaier: involve the public

However, the KJV spokesman criticized the fact that the climate-neutral administration was not even discussed.

In addition, he cannot understand why the public is not included in these plans: “Such a forward-looking topic should be treated transparently.” The community sees this as “not very effective”.

The town hall explains that possible adjusting screws can best be regulated “from within”.

A corresponding concept with a step-by-step plan is in place.

As far as the overarching area of climate and environmental protection in Murnau is concerned, however, they are very happy about “active participation” on the part of the citizens, said Röttinger.
