The amendment passed by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress earlier markedly revised the Hong Kong Legislative Council system.
The Government will submit the "Improvement of the Electoral System (Consolidated Amendment) Bill 2021" to the Legislative Council for first reading next Wednesday (14th).
From March 31st to April 7th, the Hong Kong Democracy Research Institute interviewed 7,119 people in the form of online questionnaires on electoral reforms.
The results showed that 68% of the interviewees believed that the National People's Congress revised the election system of the Chief Executive and the Legislative Council to widen the distance between Hong Kong society and democratic universal suffrage, and 61% of the interviewees opposed the newly established candidate qualification review system.

Feng Weihua, president of the Hong Kong Education Professionals Association, pointed out that the survey results fully express that the changes in the system have widened the distance between Hong Kong and democratic universal suffrage. Many individual votes have been changed to group votes, making it impossible for voters to express their personal opinions.
Feng Weihua pointed out that there are only 30 seats left in the education sector, including ex-officio members, which makes it difficult to reflect public opinion.
Chen Jialuo, associate professor of the Department of Politics and International Relations at HKBU, described the electoral reform as an unpopular change. The road to democracy is not only getting farther and farther, "the road goes straight to the end."
Chen Jialuo believes that the selected election is not a real election, and believes that no real democrats can enter the election in future elections, and supporters of the democrats will not recognize that the election is valid, and the voting ratio will certainly not be too high. .
