Education Minister Yoav Galant responded today (Friday) to a storm that erupted following the controversial High Court decision to allow him to examine whether he could refuse to award the Israel Prize to Prof. Oded Goldreich, who signed a petition calling on the EU not to cooperate with Ariel University. Following the decision, Goldrajch - selected by a committee awarded the Israel prize in mathematics and computer Science - does not receive the award on Independence day. "Who the State of Israel and its laws do not cherished, not worthy of the Israel prize," he said Gallant.
In the judgment of the Supreme Court stated that Goldreich is behind his signing of the petition, but he has made it clear that he does not support the BDS movement.
However, Galant today accused Goldreich of being a supporter of the boycott movement.
"Whoever does not value the State of Israel and its laws, does not deserve the Israel Prize."

"Prof. Goldreich may be a brilliant scientist, but his support for the boycott movement and his call for a boycott of Ariel University is a spit in the face of the State of Israel and Israeli academia and even a possible violation of the law," Galant wrote.
"We will use the time made available to us to complete the examination of whether the professor's current renunciation of the boycott movement is sincere and whether the information he provided to the court and the state in this matter is correct. A scenario supporting the boycott movement will take place on Independence Day." He's a scenario that I will not give him my hand. "
In the ruling, the High Court ruled that "the Minister of Education should be allowed to reconsider and make a decision within a month from today." The court further ruled that if Galant nevertheless decides to award the prize to Goldreich, he can do so on another occasion. "To award Prof. Goldreich the prize, it will be possible to do so at the Israel Awards ceremony to be held next year or at an earlier date according to Prof. Goldreich's choice," the judges wrote.

The decision yesterday provoked widespread criticism among left-wing activists.
Advocate Michael Sephardi, representing Goldreich, said in response that "Professor Oded Goldreich is guilty of a crime that apparently has no resurgence in today's Israel: leftism.
The Attorney General, together with the Minister of Education, created a clear McCarthyist path to prevent the Israel Prize from holding positions that oppose occupation, dispossession and apartheid, thus excluding an entire political camp in Israel guilty of the same crime.
"
The idea that the minister will continue to win over Goldreich's political statements and make use of blacklists of organizations that persecute academics and artists because of their political views is obscene and delusional, "Spain added."
