The Indonesian authorities warned today of a new typhoon threatening to cause more floods in the country that was recently hit by a storm that resulted in more than two hundred people, including dozens in East Timor.
"Everyone should be careful of the possibility of high winds and heavy rains, in addition to floods and landslides," Agence France-Presse quoted the head of the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency, Dikorita Karnawati, as saying.
According to the Meteorological Agency, Tropical Cyclone Odette is expected to cause torrential rains in southern Sumatra, Java and Bali, in addition to other areas of the country, but it will not be as devastating as before.
The torrential rains that accompanied Cyclone Seroga on the fourth of April forced thousands of people to flee their homes and killed at least 165 people in Indonesia and 42 in East Timor.
Cyclone Seroga is heading towards Australia, where the authorities have called on vacationers to evacuate part of the West Coast before its expected arrival on Sunday evening or Monday morning.
