While the number of new corona infections continues to rise, intensive care physicians are warning of the collapse of the clinics and calling for a nationwide lockdown.
In their weekly press conference, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn and RKI boss Lothar Wieler once again emphasized the seriousness of the situation.
Spahn said there were more than 25,000 new corona cases.
There are too many.
"If it continues like this, there will be too many for our health system," said Spahn.
The numbers are still not reliable because of the Easter holidays and the delay in reporting, said Spahn.
The seven-day incidence nationwide is 110.4.
School and daycare children would need to be tested at least twice a week.
This should also apply to the companies.
The situation is serious.
The surveys showed that many citizens were realistic about the seriousness of the situation and were in favor of stricter measures.
It takes a lockdown to break the current wave.
"We all have to pull together," said Spahn.
A federal-state round is actually the right format for adopting new measures.
"If some people do not share the assessment of the situation, then of course it will be difficult," he said.
In any case, a brief consultation is not enough.
He could only be surprised about some of the announcements these days, said Spahn.
Berlin's Prime Minister Michael Müller had recently only proposed a brief consultation instead of a federal and state conference.
"I recommend that we all shut down the party quarrel, election year or not, and concentrate on the essentials," said Spahn.
That is the fight against the pandemic.
Compulsory testing for vaccinated persons should be dropped
There are now more vaccines available, and the family doctors are now also vaccinating.
17 million cans were inoculated in Germany.
With the health ministers of the federal states, Spahn discussed adapting the ordinances in April to the current situation.
When traveling, the compulsory test for completely vaccinated persons can largely be dispensed with, only those who return from variant areas have to be tested further.
