The personal data of users of the workplace social media platform LinkedIn are suspected of being retrieved and resold. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data of Hong Kong stated today (9th) that considering that personal data may include names, email addresses, phone numbers, work history, etc., LinkedIn has been contacted to understand the incident, and the initial response indicated that the incident is under investigation. Hong Kong users may be affected, but the number is still under investigation.

The Privacy Office stated that it has sent a letter to LinkedIn requesting clarification and reminded LinkedIn that if it finds that users in Hong Kong are affected, it should notify the affected users as soon as possible to reduce the risks caused by the incident.
The Privacy Office will continue to follow up the incident.
The Privacy Commissioner Zhong Liling urged LinkedIn users to be vigilant and guard against the theft of personal data. If users suspect that their personal data has been leaked, they can contact the relevant platform for inquiries, or to the Privacy Office for inquiries or complaints.
The PCPD reminds users to change the passwords of accounts on social media and other platforms if necessary, enable the two-factor authentication function for account login, pay attention to whether there are unusual login records in accounts and personal emails; and receive unknown or suspicious calls and text messages Or be alert when emailing.
