The door of a mosque located in the north of Nantes was destroyed by a fire on the night of Thursday 8 to Friday 9 April and an investigation for degradation of place of worship was entrusted to the departmental security, according to sources concordant.

A judicial investigation is underway into this fire, the origin of which is currently unknown,

Police said the fire was reported at 2:43 am and a “
wooden double-leaf door
” was destroyed, “
but a closed (blackened) metal shutter was still blocking the entrance
The fire was caused by a "
fire of containers filled with cardboard boxes placed in front of this door
", further explains the police.

It will be necessary to repaint the facade and repair the destroyed door, but the mosque remains accessible via its two other entrances, he explained.
