An engineering scandal broke out in the Hung Hom Station project of the Sha-Central Line in 2018, alleging that workers cut steel bars at Hung Hom Station and the engineering records were falsified or missing. Earlier, the "Fax Agency" reported that Leighton purchased 380,000 from the screw nut supplier in the project. A screw cap is more than double the 180,000 required by the design.

However, it has been more than two years since the outbreak of the Shazhong line scandal. There is still only one prosecution by the Buildings Department against Leighton, the contractor. The hearing has not yet begun, and there has never been a government accountability.
