Schongau: No bungalow festival, but lots of ideas

There will be no bungalow festival in Schongau this year either.

This is the third time that the planned music event has been canceled.

The team around the band “Yokio” doesn't want to give up and will definitely start a new attempt in 2022.

There are enough ideas to get something up and running beforehand.

Schongau

- What a start into a new festival.

First attempt: The guys from the Schongau band “Yokio” want to start their first own festival in 2019.

18 artists are scheduled to perform in the Peiting open-air swimming pool in autumn 2019, 1000 visitors are expected.

Everything is prepared, the weather alone throws the organizers through the bill.

To be on the safe side, the festival will be canceled or postponed at short notice.

The pandemic ruined the second attempt

Second attempt for summer 2020: Under the motto “#Mauptsach 'wild”, eleven bands are to play at the first “Bungalou” festival at the Volksfestplatz at the beginning of August in Schongau.

The musicians, who take over the organization of the entire musical area, have teamed up with the “Schongauer Sommer” boss Manfred Wodarczyk, Max Diegruber (Blue Grape, ITEM events) is also on board.

This time the corona virus tears down all plans, the festival is canceled or postponed a second time.

Third attempt: It should now take place in summer 2021, a week after the Schongau summer, as Wodarczyk reported in February.

"But it was clear to us that we hadn't got that far with the vaccinations in Germany by then and that we wouldn't be able to hold a festival under these circumstances," said Manuel Sachs. That's why they didn't even start selling tickets again .

"The 'Bungalou' Festival 2021 will unfortunately be canceled again due to Covid-19," the organizers report on their website.

They don't give up, on the contrary

But they will not give up, Sachs makes clear, who with Franz Mader, Dominik Vicario and Sebastian Lang now wants to organize everything on his own again, "back to the roots", so to speak.

“We received a lot of support from the people during the three phases of ticket refunds,” reports Sachs. A maximum of 40 tickets have gone back, between 350 and 400 are in circulation, which - of course - will continue to be valid for the next first festival.

The funds for a possible refund are safely stored in an account, so that everything goes right, the team called in a tax advisor.

“It's a solid investment for people,” jokes Sachs. Even if the student doesn't feel like joking at all at the moment, you can't even make music together at these times, the three Schongauers Sachs, Mader and Lang and the Peitinger Vicario everyone sit at home and study or work from home.

There are many ideas, you also look at what other organizers are doing

But the ideas bubble all the more.

In 2022, i.e. at the fourth attempt, they want to come up with a lot for the loyal fans.

"Everyone has been waiting for a festival for so long, so now is the right time," Sachs paraphrases. Perhaps the festival won't even take place in Schongau on the Volksfestplatz, but that's not all dry yet, conversations are underway.

“It's also an opportunity we're getting there,” says Franz Mader.

Because so many tickets are already in circulation, you can then plan better.

At the moment just one idea: to get beach chairs to Schongau at a distance for a series of concerts.

Organizers are already testing this out, including in Augsburg.

But Sachs believes that a small series of concerts can also be imagined, maybe even this year, when the number of infections level out at a low level.

One has been keeping an eye on how other organizers are doing or planning it for a long time.

"Perhaps it will work in a similar way to us as in Augsburg at the open air beach chair", whether with a beach chair or a deck chair, the musicians are already collecting lots of ideas.

A form of “picnic concert” could also work in Schongau - a family or a small group could sit together at a large distance from the next picnic blanket, of course everything with a valid hygiene concept.

"We shouldn't stand still and continue planning," says Mader.

Whatever and whenever will be possible is of course written in the stars.

"But we look around."
