The Israel Police has opened an investigation following a suspicion of double murder that took place this evening (Friday) in the village of Deir al-Assad in the north of the country.
According to the police statement, in a shooting incident in the village, two men in their 20s were injured, and two children, aged 10 and 13, who were evacuated to the hospital in Nahariya for medical treatment.
Doctors were forced to determine the deaths of the two men.
Dr. Tamer Naama, medical director of the rescue organization "Hyan", said that the two children were injured in a grenade spraying incident. The two were moderately and lightly injured.
The announcement stated that many police forces were deployed in and around the village.
Police also said that "according to a preliminary assessment, the background to the incident is an old conflict between families."
According to the monitoring data of the "Abraham Initiatives" organization, since the beginning of the year, 31 Arabs in Israel, including 25 citizens of the state, have been murdered on criminal grounds. "In 26 of the cases, the murder was done using a firearm," the association said. "19 of those killed were up to the age of 30, and in four of the cases police officers were involved in the shooting."
