Out of the EU: At its federal party conference in Dresden, the AfD spoke out in favor of Germany leaving the European Union.
A clear majority of the delegates accepted a motion that provides for a corresponding change in the election platform for the Bundestag election.
In a heated debate, party leader Jörg Meuthen, among others, spoke out against it.
The amendment that was adopted reads: "We consider Germany's exit from the European Union and the establishment of a new European economic and interest group to be necessary." In the main motion for the Bundestag election program, however, exit was only listed as an option.
The program should say that Germany is striving to »exit the current structure of the association of states« if the AfD concept is not enforceable in its core components for the EU.
Party leader Meuthen, who sits for the AfD in the European Parliament, vehemently campaigned in front of the delegates to reject this application.
Instead, he advocated working with other parties within the EU, such as the Hungarian ruling party Fidesz.
The AfD will achieve nothing if they declare a will to leave.
It is "far wiser" to cooperate with other parties.
