Double efforts are made by cleaning workers in Damascus governorate, despite their small number, to raise the level of hygiene in various areas of the city and its neighborhoods, by sweeping streets and lanes, transporting and transferring waste and rinsing the streets, especially in light of the exceptional circumstances imposed by the Corona pandemic.

Director of Cleaning in Damascus Governorate, Eng. Imad Al-Ali, in a statement to the representative of SANA, the transfer of 285 thousand tons of waste collected from the city to the landfill and treatment sites, more than 395 tons of medical waste and 12,782 thousand cubic meters of rubble and dust from several areas of the city, from the beginning of this year until Its history.

Al-Ali indicated that 5783 seizures have been organized against violators of the hygiene law, and more than 29.751 million Syrian pounds have been collected for the transportation of garbage from various activities such as hospitals, hotels, restaurants, etc., and 13.805 million pounds for the collection of hygiene controls.

Al-Ali pointed out that the directorate’s mechanisms transport and transfer waste at a rate two or three times a day, in an amount estimated between 2,700 and 3,200 tons per day, and medical waste is transported separately from hospitals, health centers, clinics and laboratories and transported to treatment sites in an amount estimated at about 5 tons per day in addition to rinsing the main streets. And the subsidiary according to a permanent program, pointing to the difficulties and obstacles facing the directorate’s work due to the shortage and leakage of workers and the number of mechanisms.

Al-Ali indicated that the Directorate started since the beginning of the year with cleaning and weeding campaigns for the sidewalks and boroughs, stressing the need to adhere to the rules of general cleanliness in terms of throwing garbage and placing it in the places designated for it and not throwing rubble, dust, and construction and restoration waste outside the containers or on the main roads.
